How many confi gurations of the Sig P320 are there? Dozens. When Sig Sauer says their Sig P320 is the most adaptable gun ever, it is because there are four grip modules (full size, carry, compact, and subcompact) that can be used on the one-size-fi ts- all serialized stainless-steel frame.
There are also six barrel sizes of different lengths; three are threaded for use with threaded silencers (suppressors), and three are standard. In addition, there are three slides to go with the four grip modules (the compact slide is also used with the subcompact grip module). Sig P320 grip modules are available in three grip sizes (cir- cumferences): small, medium and large, providing optimal grip circumference and giving the shooter access to controls for any Sig P320 hand size. There aren’t any back straps to fi t onto the grip modules to adjust the grip size.
The SIG P320 is Sig Sauer’s first go at a striker-fired handgun. The striker firing mechanism is based on a spring-loaded firing pin (striker) commonly used in semi- automatic rifles rather than the traditional pistol with a hammer such as in the long popular John Browning 1911s. Shown is a 9mm, full-size frame Sig P320.
When the Sig P320’s serialized stainless-steel frame is mated with a full-size grip module, for example, it becomes a full-size frame that is used with a full-size magazine and either the full- size standard barrel or a full-sized threaded barrel. The P320 can also be quickly converted from full size to a carry pistol (Carry Nitron® – Nitron simply refers to the frame’s fi nish), to a compact, and to a subcompact. The compact also has two available slide fi nishes: OD Green and Flat Dark Earth. All but the subcompact grip modules have an integrated M1913 ac- cessory rail, which is a true Mil-Spec rail. M1913 ensures stabil- ity and performs with lights, lasers and other accessories. Slide and barrel conversions allow the P320 to change be- tween calibers and barrel lengths as well. The P320 is available in 9mm, 40 S&W, 357 Sig and 45 ACP. This means that the six standard and threaded barrel options are in turn available in 9mm, 40 S&W, 357 Sig and 45 ACP.
To go with the four different Sig P320 grip modules are fi ve magazines: one for full size, two for compact/carry, and two for subcompact use. A magazine disconnect safety is optional. Full-size magazines can contain 17 rounds, with 15 rounds for compact. There are other variations, such as 12 rounds for 9mm subcompact, 10 rounds for 357 Sig, and six rounds for 45 ACP magazines.
Sig P320 grip modules are available in three grip sizes (circumferences): small, medium and large, providing optimal grip circumference and giving the shooter access to controls for any Sig P320 hand size. Shown is a 9mm, full-size frame Sig P320, with a medium grip circumference.
on’s serial number and is the core mechanical component of all versions of the numerous Sig P320 variations. The different grip modules and slides aren’t serialized. The slide release is ambidextrous.
With a partially pre-tensioned striker, the P320 has a short, crisp trigger pull with a quick, pronounced reset right out of the box. It comes in two trigger variants: a standard trigger and a tabbed safety trigger for specifi c law enforcement clients. Featuring the Sig Sauer internal safety system, the P320 has no external safety or decocking lever to snag or hang up on the draw. And since the serialized stainless-steel frame is the same for all modules, the trigger pull on all four grip modules is 5.5–6.5 pounds.
Unlike some other pistols, the P320 features a unique fi ve- point safety system Striker Safety, Disconnect Safety and a three-point Take Down Safety System which is standard on all models: 1) takedown is prohibited without removal of maga- zine; 2) system prohibits takedown without slide locked to the rear; and 3) rotation of takedown lever allows disassembly with- out tools or trigger manipulation.
A frame-mounted thumb safety version will be available for law enforcement needs. SigLITE® night sights (large dots) come standard, and the reversible magazine release makes the P320 completely ambidextrous.
