reflection. “Often when seasons change, we focus on the obvious things, like changing our wardrobe, rather than prioritizing our mental health,” says Eliza Davis, a psychotherapist in New York. “In the summer, it’s easy to spend time outside, but as the days get shorter, you should continue to get out during daylight hours to support your serotonin levels and improve your mood.” A great option? Plan a daily walk with a friend. You’ll get exercise, fresh air, and connection.

MINDFULNESS, MEDITATION “Even just 10 minutes of
meditation or stillness can greatly reduce anxiety,” says Harris. “If you cannot commit to 10 minutes, try three minutes and build up. Consistency is key.” Use apps like Headspace, Insight Timer, or Calm, or set a timer and sit in silence. No phone. No noise. Just breathing.

FOCUS ON MENTAL HEALTH Fall invites inwardness and
brings late nights and disrupted routines. Fall is a time for reestablishing schedules. “Anchor your day with bookend habits — a consistent morning and evening routine to create stability,” says Michelle Harris, a licensed clinical social worker and author of The Stress Factor and The C.L.A.R.I.T.Y Code Blueprint. She suggests using habit-stacking: Link a new habit (like stretching) to an existing one (like brushing your teeth).

Allison Jeanette Briggs, a licensed professional counselor and trauma therapist. Start with protein-rich breakfasts and avoid skipping meals. Your body reads hunger as stress. Shift to warm, grounding meals like soups, roasted veggies, and herbal teas to support digestion. Susie Kundrat, a registered dietitian nutritionist and author of Eat Move Groove, suggests: “Blend up a big pot of soup with your favorite root veggies.”

all is like nature’s soft reboot. The leaves are changing,
pumpkin spice lattes are back, and your calendar is suddenly full of
appointments and meetings that were put off during the summer. “Resetting for fall does not mean
becoming a new person,” says Veronica West, a psychologist and founder of My Thriving Mind. “It means gently redirecting your life out of the summer haze and back toward something that feels stable.”
Start small. Keep it simple. And follow these expert tips to reset your health this fall, body and mind.

PRIORITIZE PHYSICAL HEALTH
“Set a ‘minimum’ and
‘maximum’ for daily move- ment,” says Christina Muller, a licensed clinical social worker. “Even on low-energy days, hitting your mini- mum counts as a win — and that success triggers a dopamine response, reinforcing consistency.” If you’re feeling low energy, don’t skip activity altogether. A quick walk or gentle yoga still counts and keeps your rhythm intact.
says Brooke Bussard, M.D., author of Outsmarting Menopause. “From balancing hormones to stabilizing blood sugar and supporting gut health, it’s vital. Make at least half of your meal vegetables, fruits, beans, or whole grains.”
