he trump administration is launching a $14 billion crackdown on waste and duplication in Medicare,

Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Health and Human Services Sec-

retary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said his office will begin efforts to halt rampant waste, fraud, and abuse. Kennedy said the passage in July

of President Donald Trump’s tax and spending bill has given his department

the tools “to strengthen these vital pro- grams for generations to come.” A recent review by the Centers for

Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) revealed that nearly 3 million people were either enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP in multiple states, or simultane- ously enrolled in both Medicaid/CHIP and a subsidized Affordable Care Act Exchange plan. Kennedy said the government is pay-

ing multiple times for people enrolled in more than one healthcare program. His department found that in 2024, an average of 1.2 million people each month were enrolled in CHIP in two or more states, which isn’t allowed under federal rules. The review also determined that an average of 1.6 million people each

required by federal statute to be exam- ined at least once a year to guard against improper enrollments through a process called Medicaid periodic data matching. The requirement was halted by

the Biden administration during the COVID-19 pandemic, but never rein- stated through the end of his term. House Budget Committee Chair

Jodey Arrington hailed Kennedy’s announcement, saying results like this are a byproduct of Trump’s megabill. “Our healthcare safety nets should

“For too long, countless

Americans with criminal histories have been permanently disenfranchised from exercising the right to keep and bear arms — a right every bit as constitutionally enshrined as the right to vote, the right to free speech, and the right to free exercise of religion — irrespective of whether

convicted felons would be eligible to have their rights restored, saying existing law will still prevent “dangerous criminals” from legally possessing firearms. She said discretion will be used on a case-by-case basis based on the evidence, but absent “extraordinary circumstances,” violent felons, registered sex offenders, and illegal aliens will not be eligible. Trump started the process

in February when he signed an executive order that gave Bondi 30 days to examine all orders and agency policies that infringe on Second Amendment rights.
