Cameron Comes Out Swinging
GOP candidate vows unyielding support for Trump in Senate race to succeed Kentucky’s Mitch McConnell.

aniel cameron insists those who think he’d be nothing more than a Mitch McConnell clone if elected
to replace him in the U.S. Senate are just flat wrong. “I’m my own man,” said an ani-
mated Cameron when asked about his well-documented ties to the longest- serving Senate Republican, who is stepping down after next year. Unlike McConnell, who helped Democrats stonewall some of Presi- dent Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks earlier this year and remains a thorn in his side on numerous issues, Cam- eron insisted that wouldn’t have hap- pened with him in office. “You know, when it comes to [McConnell’s] votes, I would have voted for Tulsi Gabbard,” said Camer- on. “I would have voted for Pete Hegs- eth. I would have voted for RFK Jr. “I’ve demonstrated my own track
record, whether it was having the opportunity to speak on behalf of President Trump at the 2020 Repub- lican National Convention [or] as the attorney general of Kentucky, where I was making my own decisions,” he explained. One of those decisions drew
national headlines when Cameron, who has a long history of supporting police, dealt with the officer-involved shooting death of a Louisville woman, Breonna Taylor. Cameron withstood withering
attacks from critics and media for his determination that the officers who opened fire were justified in doing so. “I was the person who was standing
up for our law-enforcement commu- nity,” he said. “I was the person, along with my wife, who had folks protesting on our front lawn.” Cameron said that experience is an

example of how he won’t bow to politi- cal pressure. Another is how, even when Trump was being attacked by what he calls a “weaponized” justice system, he gladly stood by his side when other Republicans wouldn’t.
