TRUMP A TOUGH LEADER, INDEFATIGABLE FIGHTER We haven’t had a president of such mettle for so long that we’ve forgotten what real leadership looks like. Take note, adversaries of all sorts: Donald Trump is a tough leader and indefatigable fi ghter, even when faced with an assassin’s bullet. We’ve seen that with respect to Iran (a fi ght which should have been settled by Jimmy Carter), the closure of the southern border, the way he has made our allies pay their fair share for NATO, and his tough tariff negotiations. Let the world take note — anyone wishing harm on America will face hell’s fury from Trump.

GERIATRIC CRISIS Our nation’s geriatric care facilities are a mess (“Nursing Homes on Life Support,” June). Both government and the private sector have been asleep at the switch for decades. Such facilities are needed for a rapidly aging U.S. population, of which the over-80 population will jump by 18.8 million in just the next fi ve years. Ever-increasing labor costs, insurance premiums, regulatory expenses, as well as insuffi cient Medicaid reimbursements indicate more cooperation between government, healthcare, labor, and the private sector is needed. That can happen with innovative, for-profi t healthcare co-ops to save our nation’s long-term convalescence facilities. gretchen pinitucci Hartford, Conn.

USELESS JUDGES Why do so many judges disrespect Americans’ rights? They see the rights of rioters, haters, and illegals as being foremost. Additionally, there are many Democrats and RINOs who couldn’t care less about average Americans. (“Battles Lines Drawn as Trump Challenges Federal Courts,” May) dave brodie Monroe, Mich.

HERO REDUX Trump vowed to abolish the Washington swamp. But will it only be replaced with a diff erent mess? If

he is serious, the president will hire Prof. William K. Black, a youthful 73 years old, to be a Justice Department supervising prosecutor over fi nancial fraud. In the 1980s, during the Reagan administration, Black, as a young federal prosecutor, single-handedly masterminded the prosecution of the savings and loans looters, and he can do it again. SILENT MAJORITY Tucker Carlson, Steve Bannon, and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., don’t speak for MAGA. They are only part of the movement — not the leaders. In fact, they’ve even lost supporters. Most Republicans didn’t want the Iranian regime to get nuclear bombs. Most Evangelical Christians support Trump, the defense of our ally Israel, and the end of the mullah regime. “America First” is not “America Only.”

BIOMEDICINE Very little publicity is given to the tearing down of our biomedical community. Frozen grants mean canceled clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease and cardiovascular health, as examples. Thousands of educated and talented private sector biomedical

personnel have either lost their jobs or are going to. Cancel the entire pain management and research department at NIH? These extremely talented scientists were working on novel therapies for chronic pain across a variety of illnesses and conditions. Pain is the No. 1 reason why people seek healthcare. We’ll lose thousands of brilliant people to overseas companies, and we’ll lose our cutting edge. leon hirsh Pensacola, Fla.

ASK RIGHT QUESTION It’s amazing that Greta Van Susteren doesn’t ask obvious questions about Iran while obsessing with obscure diplomatic issues and whether our bombs destroyed its nuclear program. This all reminds me of the time,

as an editor, I asked a reporter to interview a living Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. He came back with the story but forgot to ask what he did to win the medal. robert phillips Sag Harbor, N.Y.
