Magic Is Gone From Disney’s Woke Kingdom
G
ov. ron desantis famously says flori- da “is where ‘woke’ goes to die.” Disney,
the Sunshine State’s most-famous company, learned that to its detriment.
The company came under withering attack
from DeSantis for opposing a new Florida law that prohibits classroom instruction and discus-
sion about sexual orientation and gender iden- tity in some elementary school grades. The governor, who is running for the Repub-
lican presidential nomination, responded to the criticism by eliminating Disney World’s decades-old special tax district near Orlando and replacing it with a hand-picked board of supervisors. “When you have companies that have made a fortune off being family
friendly and catering to families and young kids, they should understand that parents of young kids do not want this injected into their kid’s kindergarten classroom,” he said. Meanwhile Disney’s decision to weave “woke” themes into two of its full-
LOS ANGELES DODGERS The National League West’s Los Ange- les Dodgers struck out twice with Cath- olic fans after they invited, uninvited, and then reinvited a local chapter of an activist group of “queer and trans nuns” as part of the team’s LGBTQ+ Pride Night celebration. Before the fi rst pitch in a game
against the San Francisco Giants, the team recognized the Los Angeles- based branch of Sisters of Perpetu- al Indulgence with the Community Hero Award. SPI is widely known for dressing
up in lewd, mock-nun outfi ts during protests that push anti-Catholic mes- saging, including on issues such as abortion. After hearing the group was being honored, several leading Catho- lics expressed their outrage. In response to the initial backlash,
the Dodgers rescinded the invitation to the group — only to backtrack after LGBTQ+ groups banded together and protested. Catholic groups responded to the capitulation by calling for a boycott of the game. After the fallout, the team announced it would bring back “Christian Faith and Family Day” on July 30.

length animated features last year also proved costly. The mega-company reportedly lost more than $300 million due to kid
fl icks such as Strange World and Lightyear, which both fl opped at the box offi ce. The fi lms integrated storylines with LGBTQ+ themes, an addition that didn’t sit well with some parents. In Strange World, which follows a family of explorers, 16-year-old Ethan tells his grandfather about having a crush on another boy. The origin tale for the Toy Story franchise character Buzz Lightyear also featured a same-sex kiss. Disney+, the company’s streaming service, lost 4 mil-
lion subscribers. Karey Burke, president of Disney General Entertain-
ment, has said that she would like to see at least 50% of Disney’s characters in the future identify as LGBT or a racial minority.
wich chain Chick-fi l-A hired a vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) back in 2021, the position received renewed atten- tion recently following the boycotts of other brands that jumped on the “woke” bandwagon. Known for backing wholesome Christian values, Chick-fi l-A’s website now has an entire sec- tion dedicated to out- lining its DEI com- mitments. On the website,
the company states it hopes to promote equal access to oppor- tunities, value diff er- ences, and create an
inclusive company culture. It quotes Erick McReynolds, the
DEI vice president, who states he is “committed to ensuring mutual respect, understanding, and dignity everywhere we do business.” And the DEI veep isn’t the only
“woke” eff ort the company has made that’s resurfaced. A 3-year-old video
featuring the chicken company’s former CEO shining the shoes of a Black man in response to the 2020 protests over the police-involved deaths of George Floyd has gone viral again.
