Originally working out of Blue Honey on Quay St, and then Kongs, before settling into the Jazz Cafe nearby, Chronic had a momentum all of its own.


In a city where excellent fried chicken is still at a premium, the irresistible combination of the tenderness you only get from overnight brining, a huge crunch and innovative toppings soon made their burgers an essential order. Then to Bristol, which was always the plan, to test themselves against the demands of there.


A series of weekend popups at The Scrandit was so successful the city became their new home, where they have set up in the Pennywell Project to an enthusiastic reception. But for owner Tyler, there was always a nagging sense of unfinished

business here in Cardiff – a sense that restrictions, both imposed by government and by premises, meant he never had the chance to feed people quite the way he wanted to.


So here they are, back in Cardiff, setting up in isfits Social lub on Salisbury Road for an initial couple of months. Here is where you’ll find that unmistakably ruffed and frilled deep gold of that chicken on a menu where temptation at you comes thick and fast, from their smoked chilli and lime burger – they make all sauces and mayonnaises in house daily – to


orean BB teamed with fries laced with parmesan and garlic butter, or halloumi fries with chilli and honey.


It’s rare a Cardiff business makes a successful transition to Bristol. It’s even rarer to make an eagerly-awaited return. That’s something to be celebrated.
