FESTIVALS & EVENTS Baroque At The Edge is
London’s ‘no rules’ early music festival, running from 4 – 6 January at LSO St Luke’s, where the artists explore different ways of playing baroque music in the 21st century (“no programme notes, no lectures: all you need to know is how to listen.”). Included are John Dipper & Dave Malkin working with storyteller Nick Hennessey, viola da gamba experimentalist Liam Byrne and singer Sally Davies with an English folksong workshop.
GlobalFEST takes place at
Times Square’s Copacabana nightclub in New York City (6th Jan) with a line-up including BCUC, Jeremy Dutcher, 47Soul, Combo Chimbita, Gato Preto,
Magos Herrera & Brooklyn Rider: Dreamers, Orquesta Akokán, Debashish Bhattacharya, Cha Wa, Amythyst Kiah, Dakh Daughters and Zouk Machine.
Shannonside Winter Music
Festival has its 20th anniversary year in 2019, taking place from 17th – 21st January in Co Clare with a line-up including Matt Molloy & John Carty with Arty McGlynn & Mick Hanly, Kate Purcell, Ger O’Donnell & Kate Theasby, Brian King, Liam Leahy, Doyle Family, Gael Force 4, Brendan Bugler, Niamh O’Donnell and more.

The Round (22nd – 31st Jan) radically transforms the architecture of its main space in a series of intimate one-off performances. Encompassing a range of genres, the series includes Ana Moura, An Evening of Words and Music with Patti Smith, This Is The Kit,and Shirley Collins.
The Gloucester Cajun and
Zydeco Festival is back for its 26th year in 2019, with guests including Hogan’s Heroes, Boat Band, Rough Chowder, The Po Boys, The Bayou Tapestry, Joli Blon, The Zydeco Diamonds as well as dance workshops. 25th – 27th January.
