BIXIGA 70
QUEBRA CABEçA Urban Afro-Brazilian grooves, empowered horn-driven melodicism and massive dance floor inspiration. One of South America’s most exhilarating musical propositions. Bixiga 70 has always been a reflection of the streets where they live. The band played their first show in October 2010 and released their debut album a year later. Eight years on they are still the same 10-piece collective, honing and shaping the music, evolving towards the sound on Quebra Cabeça. GLITTERBEAT RECORDS

Sing Me Back Home: The DC Tapes, 1965–1969 is out now on Free Dirt Records. “This exceptional disc is nigh impeccable” – FOLK RADIO UK FREE DIRT RECORDS
FOFOULAH
DAEGA REK The London based Afro-dub ensemble Fofoulah, have followed-up their trailblazing debut album with an even more shapeshifting and adventurous recording: Daega Rek (The Truth). Slippery sabar beats, dystopian electronics and echoing, shamanic chants ratchet up both the dub quotient and the dramatic tension. A soundworld that is both earthy and urban, futurist and rooted. GLITTERBEAT RECORDS
EMILYN STAM & FILIPPO GAMBETTA
SHORELINES Canadian Emilyn Stam (piano, 5-string fiddle) and Italian Filippo Gambetta (diatonic accordion) – have put together an album of original compositions rooted in Italian and North American music traditions. Their diverse experiences contribute to the duo’s open and curious perspective on instrumental folk music resulting in a transatlantic musical collaboration that is truly exciting. BOREALIS
ASHLEY HUTCHINGS
PARADISE AND THORNS Hutchings’ new double CD and LP Paradise And Thorns is all about love and its consequences. Disc One: ‘Gloucester Docks Revisited’ – adds more detail to the unfolding relationship Hutchings depicted in the original album and brings into focus other scenes not previously described. Disc Two is Hutchings’ personal selection of love songs and stories demonstrating the many faces and types of love and what it means in different contexts. TALKING ELEPHANT
AUSTIN LUCAS
IMMORTAL AMERICANS Co-produced by Lucas and Will Johnson (Centro-matic) and recorded/engineered by Steve Albini, Austin Lucas’ seventh studio album, Immortal Americans was written after a tumultuous period that found Lucas getting sober, supporting his partner through a battle with cancer, and breaking up with his long time record label. Immortal Americans is a clear-eyed album for murkier times, rooted in stripped-down heartland rock songs that find the artist reflecting upon the changes in both his hometown and himself. GONE AWAY WITH A FRIEND Rev. Frank Newsome sings a more than four-century-long American tradition into the present on his debut album out now on Free Dirt Records.
