WELCOME TO THE TELEVISUAL FACTUAL BRIEFING In these pages, you will find details of opportunities to pitch ideas to broadcasters and services in the UK, the US and to stream globally. For the core factual customers for UK indies, there are programming briefs, the heads up on shows that are loved by audiences and commissions coming up next.

We’ve also been canvassing the views of leading factual producers to find out what they see as the opportunities and challenges as we head into 2022. And we feature the winners of this year’s British Documentary Awards at the Griersons.

We would normally be welcoming the factual community to the annual Televisual Factual Festival around now. Instead, we have worked with factual broadcasters and indies to bring you this all-in-one-place written briefing. At the same time, we are producing a series of Televisual Factual Films, shot with the key commissioners, which will appear on Televisual’s website.

The headline that emerges from the platform briefs is that despite a backlog of production caused by the pandemic, the opportunities from international platforms are buoying up the sector. The prevailing themes coming out of lockdown are a movement to warmer, escapist programming and content that speaks to the community.

With that in mind, this publication and its sister films are Televisual’s platform to support the world-leading community of factual film-makers in the UK.
