at the dark side, behind the glamour.
On Sky Nature, the ambition is to be a place where people can come and celebrate the natural world and feel inspired to protect the planet. The first premium original launched in the Autumn - Shark with Steve Backshall, from Sky-backed indie True To Nature. The series is blue chip, with beautiful footage and Backshall as its passionate presenter.
Each year, two or three blue chip, landmark documentarys will be commissioned by Sky Natture, plus one or two that are lower cost, and might be presenter-led, perhaps archive driven.
Sky History is commissioned through A+E, with one or two direct Sky co-commissions for really ambitious premium history story-telling each year.
The Sky commissioning team works closely with Sky Studios and can potentially provide help to production companies – big and small - with deficit financing and to structure funding, including co-production.
WHAT’S NEXT AT SKY
The Devil’s Advocate is a three part series about Giovanni di Stefano, the lawyer who represented some of the world’s most notorious criminals - including Saddam Hussein and train robber Ronnie Biggs - who turned out to have no legal qualifications. It’s a ‘catch me if you can’ style caper, told in a really visually interesting and dynamic way. Produced by Wonderhood, Sky Studios helped to deficit finance the project.

Mother Teresa: For the Love of God? is another three part series, from Minnow Films. It’s a biography that reveals a side of Mother Teresa that perhaps people don’t know. Told from many view-points, it includes questions about how she handled her wealth and the hospices and medical facilities that she looked after.

Also in the pipeline is feature documentary Chernobyl ‘86, the nuclear tragedy at the heart of celebrated Sky drama Chernobyl.
