Member update

Liz Barnwell, membership manager at the FPA, gives an update on the latest member news Fire Sector Summit 2019

IT WAS good to attend my first Fire Sector Summit in London recently, and to meet both current and prospective new members. One Great George Street was a suitably imposing venue for the event, which was located in the heart of Westminster. The talks were very thought provoking, judging by the amount of questions that speakers received from delegates at the end of each session. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, so do save the date of next year’s Summit, which is on Wednesday 4 November 2020.

Member networking event

At the time of going to print, arrangements are being finalised for the forthcoming FPA member networking event, which will take place at Aviva’s headquarters in London on Monday 9 December. Speakers at this event

include Dr Jim Glockling, technical director of the FPA, talking about the science of watermist systems; and Laura White of Pinsent Masons LLP, looking at the legislative landscape post Grenfell. The networking events are a great way to meet other FPA members over lunch, make new contacts and listen to some informative talks as well.

Fire Warden Handbook

A new edition of the Fire Warden Handbook has just been published. This latest addition to our essential handbook series provides an overview of the threat posed by fire, and details the vital role of the fire warden in preventing an outbreak and the action to be taken should a fire occur.

Aimed at any member of staff who has

responsibility for being a fire warden, the 64 page handbook is split into easy to read
