PLOT 3 at Segro Business Park is situated in the East Midlands Gateway and Alpine was awarded the contract for its design and project management. The design standard for this £3 million, 513,552 square foot active fire suppression project was to FM Global specifications, featured 75,560 sprinkler heads and had a 15 month build programme. Rapid response sprinkler protection was required throughout the roof, canopies, OSR (order, storage and retrieval) shuttle material handling system and mezzanines.
Project delivery
Alpine has been heavily involved in supporting the move to highly automated buildings, which is reflected in its year on year growth. As an LPC Level 4 accredited company, it ensures clients receive accurate, up to date information at every stage of the process. The project engineering team, which is fully conversant with both the LPC Rules for Automatic Sprinkler Installations 2015 incorporating BS EN 12845 (Sprinkler Rules) and FM Global specifications, engages early to support customers from the initial planning stage through to interpreting their requirements. It will also liaise directly with insurers to ensure
that design standards and specifications are met, whilst delivering a cost effective and high performance solution to mitigate customer risk. A nationwide team of highly trained service engineers is directly employed to inspect automatic fire suppression systems as part of a planned and preventative maintenance regime. This is vital to ensure deployment and optimal performance when the system is needed. Planned maintenance schedules are
tailored to the needs of each site, ensuring that the requirements of guidelines in Loss Prevention Standard LPS 1048: Issue 5.0: Requirements for the approval of sprinkler system contractors in the UK and Ireland are met. Steven Nanda, Alpine’s chief executive
