Managing fire safety in care homes seminar – 24 April, London

This event is intended to provide fire safety management guidance applicable to premises with staff who provide 24 hour care for residents. These residents are not able to live an independent life and may be short or long stay. They can range from children through to elderly people who possess a myriad of differing physical and mental abilities. Most people are vulnerable to the

effects of smoke and toxic fire gases when they are asleep; however, people in care homes can be more vulnerable throughout the day due to their inability to react independently, which creates challenges for evacuation. As well as the key issue of managing evacuation,

care homes as a business pose further risks due to the nature of their work, such as extensive catering facilities, laundry rooms, individual residents’ living areas, high quantity of flammable materials eg gases and therapeutic oils being stored onsite, and the danger of ignition when residents are using smoking facilities. Fires can start accidentally or

deliberately, and the consequences of fires within the care home setting can be not only catastrophic to the business, but also fatal to life safety. In addition to defining the regulatory life safety aspects, which underpin all fire safety management in care homes, the seminar will deal with additional fire safety precautions that delegates may wish to implement to protect their business. This includes the provision of property and business continuity protection in the event of a fire occurring. The event will take place on Tuesday

24 April at the 99 City Road Conference Centre, London, EC1Y 1AX. FPA and RISCAuthority members can register for £175.00 + VAT, while non members can register for £195.00 + VAT. Please visit the FPA website to book
