New guidance for thatched properties and use of wood burning stoves
For the last couple of years, the FPA has carried out full scale research at its fire testing laboratory in Gloucestershire on behalf of NFU Mutual and Historic England, on wood burning stoves and their potential contribution to thatch fires. The objective was to take a scientific, all encompassing ‘fresh eyes’ review of fires in thatched buildings. As a result of this research a comprehensive
report was written, identifying the prevalent risk of thatch fires through the operation of wood burning stoves. Additional guidance has also been produced for homeowners of thatched properties to reduce the risk of fire from wood burning and multi fuel stoves.
