ten to Barry? e

This year’s National Rotary Kids Out Day has been the biggest ever with 30,000 disadvantaged children being taken on a Fun Day all over the country in partnership with RIBI. Over 316 Rotary Clubs took part across the country. On Wednesday 13th

June eleven Rotary clubs from South East Wales

took over 750 children with additional educational needs together with their teachers and carers for a special day out at Barry Island. The usual attractions of the bouncy castle, face painting, disco, the clown and the electric robot helped the children enjoy the day. Fourteen Rotarians from Pontllanfraith were part of the support team who turned out on the day and helped carry food and set up deck chairs for each of the school party groups. There were sand castle and school banner competitions for each school to take part in. Each of the pupils received a “goody” bag at the end of the day each containing 12 items plus a Kid’s Out “T” shirt and cap that they had received prior to the day.

The children were entertained by MrT-Ricks the clown, a stilt-walker, Sparky the Robot and dancing on the promenade to the incredible DJ Sterling. With a bouncy castle on the beach, face painters, sandcastle building and sunshine a great time was had by all.

Thanks to the support of Rotary clubs, local businesses and Vale of

Glamorgan Leisure Services 28 Edwards coaches transported a posse of excited youngsters to Barry Island, and provide the children with lunch packs and lucky bags of pencils, crayons, games and toys to take home with them afterwards.

The event, one of the largest in the UK is part of a national day out organised by Kidsout and Rotary clubs. This is the 28th

year of Kids Out and

in that time over 18000 children have been brought for a day out at Barry Island.

Rotarian Chris Rippon, Kidsout co-ordinator said “A lot of hard work and support from so many people goes into making the day a success. It is all worth it to see the joy on the faces of the children on the day. As the last coach left Barry island preparations for next year’s event began!”

Abergavenny organised a visit of 15 children to Walnut Tree Park near Newport a new venue for the club. The children comprised a number of Special Needs and disadvantaged children including some Syrian children. They enjoyed their visit handling some of the smaller animals and feeding some of the bigger animals and ended up having a picnic lunch in the indoor play area.

Again, Kids Out was a great success for Cardiff East, Model Railway Centre and all the young peo- ple who attended.

The weather was again perfect and with unlimited rides and packed lunches the youngsters had a good day.

Some club members joined in the fun. The Model Railway Chairman was presented with a cheque as a donation from the club. Looking forward to 2019.
