Swansea obtained the support of the Welsh Arts Council for a large arts project. Highlights of the project included children painting local scenes and writing poetry about their lives but, in addition, an artist was engaged to teach them how to make stained glass. To their surprise and delight, their work was chosen for an exhibition at Tate Modern, London. This was huge recognition for the children and the school. Swansea Rotary offered a coach to take the

children to London where they would be able to see their display. Many had not left Swansea before. When the glass is returned to the school it will become the centre piece of a quiet area in the school grounds where children over the years can pause and reflect. What better place to plant purple crocus bulbs to highlight Rotary’s polio eradication project? And keeping the contact with the school, Swansea Rotary has ordered a supply of purple crocus bulbs for the children to plant.
