the main money raiser for the club’s charity projects. Due to the event’s success, the club has gained a lot of credit for the quality of the display and it is now a major event in the Barry calendar. ABERTILLERY Well it never rains but it pours, a well
known saying which applies to our club at the moment having not long moved into our new headquarters we now have to move again so a bit like gypsies at the moment. We are at a local pub called Berrys bar for the time being. We were successful in the quiz which was held at Earls Wood where we competed against Knighton ending up by winning by just four points 52-48 so a very close thing thanks to all those who went along to support the event.

ABERGAVENNY
Since the success of the Steam Rally the summer has disappeared in a busy blur with yet more defibrillators installed round the town, our Young Chef presence at our Food Festival and a moving wreath laying ceremony at the Menin Gate as part of the centenary of the end of World War II. The local heat of Rotary Young Chef competition was a smash hit at Abergavenny’s Food Festival. Under the watchful eye of celebrity judge Jose Pizzaro, Nagham Sweida and Lydia Harris cooked a three course meal for less than £15. In the end it was Nagham who narrowly scraped the win, with just two points between the two girls.
ABERYSTWYTH
Members have been active in the Aber Cycle fest, Christmas lights and Carnival acting as stewards, in addition to having a used-book stall at the Sea2Shore event on the Prom. A stall at the Farmers’ Market in September sold the club’s Christmas Card and Calendar.
Receipts from the Christmas Collection to the value of £2,800 were distributed at a presentation evening with £400 retained for Kids Out.
The club continues to be involved with the
Visually Handicapped Club transporting their members to meetings. At the local hospital we have helped with the newspaper round and library trolley. In late September the local Beach Buddies group had our assistance in beach cleaning.
The annual pub evening was enjoyed with Llanidloes Rotary contesting the Roy James sports trophy in indoor bowls, pool and golf. Other brave souls took to the choppy waters of the Menai Straits in inflatables! We look forward to the Young Musician round in November to select for the Area competition at Penglais School. The Membership Development and Promotion group has acquired new signage which has been used to good effect. Four new members have been inducted though two have been lost bringing our total membership to forty-three.
