when the snow abates. For others in more remote

locations I realise that it must be terrible for trade. Let’s hope we can all get back to normal and enjoy a good trade for Mother’s Day. Te Arctic weather

WELL Valentine’s day has been and gone and our promotion worked better this year despite falling midweek. Our sales improved, having extended our offer from just fillet to all steak cuts on a 2 for £12 deal. Other members used meal deals with starter, main and sweet that seem to have gone down very well. Te recent weather has

no doubt had a major effect on butchery businesses - some good some bad. With supermarkets struggling to get supplies and people not able to get around we find that our smaller village shop always sees an improved take-up. Hopefully some members will have seen this effect too. Ideally, we might hold on to some of those extra customers

certainly upped customer’s appetite for winter warming meats with sales of shin flying out the door during the last weekend of February. As well as the usual favourites, diced mutton and diced venison also sold well. Going into March and we

had our first spring lamb just to create a bit of interest before Mother’s Day. I like to keep up with some of the old traditions and have lambs dressed, with a full veil. Although I realise that customers have long since lost the ability to realise

the significance of seeing a lamb dressed in such a way it demonstrates the skill of the slaughterer. Our slaughter man Brian is as proud as punch with his dressing and so he should be. At this time of year, we push hogget, mutton and spring lamb as there are not many times of the year that you can stock all three. For Mother’s Day we will be pushing boneless turkey crowns as well as lamb and all the roasting cuts. With an offer of a free pack of pigs in blankets for customers who

spend over a certain amount on roasting cuts. Let’s make this month
