Cargill UK Strengthens Ruminant Team … Cargill has appointed two new ruminant technical sales managers in its UK team. Based in South Yorkshire, Alex
Goldthorpe is now responsible for technical sales support for Cargill customers in the east of England, from Northumberland to Kent.
Alex has a background in a family feed milling business in South Yorkshire. She
studied agricultural science at the Royal Agricultural College. Prior to joining Cargill in June 2020, she had a technical and sales role with a feed additive company, where she was responsible for training and account management. Also new to the team is Helen Rogers
who is providing technical sales support to Cargill’s key customers in the Midlands, south west England and Wales. Based in Cheshire, Helen has a degree in bio- veterinary science from The University of Liverpool and a postgraduate diploma in ruminant nutrition from Harper Adams University. She was a ruminant sales specialist for feed and animal health companies in the North West and worked as a technical adviser for a national feed additives company, providing support for UK and export customers.
… and Pig Team Jason Evans has joined Cargill’s UK pig team as technical sales manager, bringing 30 years of experience in the UK pig production industry. From a pig farming background,
Jason completed formal qualifications in pig production and management at Bishop Burton Agricultural College in East Yorkshire. He then spent 20 years managing a pig unit in Oxfordshire before jumping ships
into the supply sector with sales roles in pig genetics and then feed additives. Jason has also spent time as a farm assurance scheme manager, learning the ropes of various assessment schemes including Red Tractor farm assurance for pig units. “I’m especially enthusiastic about pig nutrition and improving
performance through better diets and feeding management,” he says. “Feed accounts for 70% of pig production costs, so if we improve feed conversion rates then overall unit efficiency and profitability will improve.” And he adds that better feed utilisation has an important part to
play on the environmental impact of all livestock production. “So it’s even more important that we monitor and measure our feed efficiency and look to make the necessary dietary improvements, both for the unit’s well-being and for the sustainability of the whole sector.”
Further expansion to the Wynnstay dairy services team
Wynnstay was delighted to announce the appointment of David Jones to the dairy services team, covering the West Midlands and neighbouring parts of Wales. From a dairy farming background,
David has worked in the UK ruminant feed industry for over a decade after graduating from Harper Adams University. “It’s a very exciting time to join Wynnstay
as the dairy services team head in a new strategic direction, focusing on nutrition, environment and data,” says Mr Jones. “My previous roles in the dairy sector have concentrated on
transition cow nutrition, feed conversion efficiency, dairy business economics and physical nutrition, and I look forward to utilising these skillsets for Wynnstay customers.” A FAR advisor with Agricultural Industries Confederation, Mr
Jones previously worked as an independent nutritional advisor for the InTouch system, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise into how dairy customers can utilise data and technology to improve business performance.
