New Chair for AIC Feed Executive Committee and New Policy Lead
AIC have announced that Nick Major, Corporate Affairs Director at ForFarmers, has taken over as the Chair for the Feed Executive Committee. Nick Major was appointed at the AIC AGM in early October taking over from recently appointed AIC Chair Angela Booth, Director of Feed Safety at AB Agri.
“We are delighted that Nick has accepted this role having served
as a member of the Feed Executive Committee for many years”, comments James McCulloch, Feed Sector head for the AIC. “He has already had an integral role in the initiatives championed by Angela during her 8 years as Chair and I am confident that he will be bringing his experience, most notably as immediate Past-President of FEFAC to build on the unwavering commitment that Angela has demonstrated during her time.”. “Looking forward we will undoubtedly be focussed on matters
surrounding EU exit and new trade deals. However all of these issues will, in my view, be driven by the imperative to deliver a more sustainable food supply chain and I will be ensuring our sector seeks to lead on the goals set out in the recently published AIC Sustainability Roadmap” says Nick Major. AIC have also welcomed Ed Barker to the team. Taking on the role of Head of Policy & External Affairs, Ed has arrived at a crucial point for
the UK agricultural sector. From a Suffolk farming background and with stints at Westminster, the CLA and most recently as senior policy advisor for the National Pig Association, Ed brings a wealth of experience to the Policy team. Commenting on the appointment AIC Chief
Executive Robert Sheasby emphasised there was much to do, “we are at a critical stage in trade negotiations with our biggest trading partner and with many others who will become increasingly influential. Our sector is facing significant change as the Common Agricultural Policy makes way for a devolved approach. I am confident that Ed will help AIC develop policy alongside members which will ensure we move forward in a positive way.”

Simon Farrant-Parker It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Simon Farrant-Parker – known to his Anitox family as Simon Parker. Simon joined Anitox in the November of 1997 as Engineering Manager. He brought with him a
lifelong knowledge and experience of the animal feed production industry and he soon transitioned to becoming Senior Feed Technologist and remained with Anitox till his retirement in October 2014. Simon’s expertise and background was in feed milling, his many years of experience and knowledge of working and running a feedmill helped Anitox develop what is today the Maxi-Mill programme. Simon taught how pelletizing was not just a technology but also an art. From there on Simon’s leading knowledge and support took him to Asia where he became known as “The Professor” and worked alongside many of our current Asian distributors and customers. He was a font of knowledge about feed milling and the Anitox products, widely regarded as the ‘father’ of our Maxi- Mill milling efficiency program, he trained many new Anitox staff members in the art and science of milling. Prior to joining Anitox, Simon had managed Sun Valley Tram Inn mill, FeedCo Piercebridge mill and worked for Milson Engineering visiting many mills supplying dies, rollers and other equipment. He also spent time working in Sudan. After taking early retirement in October 2014 due to ill health, Simon remained happy to
pass on his knowledge and advice. In his spare time, and later in his retirement, he concentrated on renovating classic cars, including his Austin Healy 3000, a racing Sprite, a 1936 MG TA and recently had purchased a Jaguar Mk II. According to the many who knew him well, Simon loved his work and the opportunities it
gave him to travel to Asia and then later concentrate in Europe. He made good friends, many of whom remained close throughout his retirement and who will miss him greatly. Simon had been long battling prostate cancer and for the past 6 years or so he had managed to keep it at bay, but sadly on Friday 30th
