End of June, Redrow Homes South Wales took part in the Bill Davies Memorial Cup at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club in a bid to help raise much needed funds for the RNLI Cardiff . T e housebuilder sponsored a boat for the day, with a team of fi ve setting sail into the Bristol Channel
joined by other local businesses all hoping to
help the charity beat the £24,000 total raised at the same event last year. T e event kicked off at Cardiff Bay Yacht Club with a breakfast for the teams before they ventured into the open water to take on the 20 mile (approx) course. Once back on dry land, the Yacht Club hosted a buff et evening as well as a prize raffl e and presentation to the winning boat, JOYRIDE JG25 which was sponsored by Berry Smith LLP and owned by Chris Watler. Heidi Ashcroſt , Vice President of the RNLI Cardiff , said: “T is event has been taking place for more than 25 years and it’s a great event for bringing together local businesses and groups to raise money for the RNLI which relies on donations and fundraising to maintain its crucial service. “We are extremely grateful to everyone who got involved this year and sponsored a boat, and a special thanks to the generous team at Redrow Homes who were eager to take part when I approached them and who were all great sports on the day!” T e RNLI is an independent charity that relies wholly on volunteers and supporters to run the lifesaving service. Last year alone it cost £177.3m to maintain the lifesaving service which includes the upkeep of the modern fl eet of lifeboats, crew training, fl ood rescue and lifeguard service on more than 240 popular beaches across the UK. Kate Butler, Sales Consultant at Redrow Homes South Wales, said: T e Bill Davies Memorial Cup is a fantastic fundraising event which Redrow has been lucky enough to take part in this year. Heidi is one of our new homeowners at our St David’s Meadow development in Colwinston and we know how much hard work goes into the lifesaving rescue service the RNLI provides so we were delighted to get involved and hope to continue! As well as raising vital funds for the charity it was also a fun experience for the team!”
