Only Men Aloud Star backs South Wales music competition


Founder of the Novello Orchestra and member of Only Men Aloud, David Mahoney, is encouraging young musicians to get involved with the South Glamorgan Festival for Young Musicians 2018. The festival, held annually in Cardiff , off ers

and competition opportunities to young musicians from South Wales up to the age of 23. This year the festival takes place on the 5th and 6th May at Kings Monkton School, Cardiff . Previous competitors in the festival include Lucie Jones, Charlotte Church, Katherine Jenkins, Ioan Grufudd and David Mahoney. Now patron to the festival, David is


encouraging young musicians of all ages and abilities to showcase their talent and enjoy performing. ‘I’m delighted to be Patron of the South Glamorgan Festival for Young Musicians. Having competed in the festival when I was a youngster, I know fi rst-hand the positive eff ect it can have on young people. Peter Randerson, the aim of SGFYM was to foster musical excellence by providing a friendly and encouraging environment for young


musicians to gain performance experience. 35 years on, it is run by a team of young volunteers and musicians looking to make a diff erence.

always been about giving young musicians, of whatever standard,


the experience of performing in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. It’s important to build their confi dence and encourage their musical development.
