CARDIFF HOMES SCHEME SHORTLISTED TWICE IN NATIONAL FIRST TIME BUYER AWARD

Cardiff’s new urban village – Te Mill, Canton – has been shortlisted in two categories of the national First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards 2018. Te awards highlight the UK’s best schemes helping people on to the housing ladder. Te development of 800 houses and apartments on the former Arjo Wiggins paper mill site is in the running to be named Best Urban Regeneration Project while its two-bedroom Ashton house style is shortlisted for the Best First Time Buyer Family Home title. Aſter being selected by the awards judges, the winners will now be decided by the public – visit www. ſtbawards.com/vote-now to cast your vote! Organised in conjunction with First Time Buyer magazine and the First Time Buyer Homeshow, the awards will be announced on 20 April in London. One of Wales’ largest regeneration programmes, Te Mill is being delivered by a partnership of Lovell, the Tirion Group and Cadwyn Housing Association. Te land was acquired and remediated by Tirion with support from the Welsh Government and financial backing from the Principality Building Society. Te development will create 442 homes for Tirion which will be managed by Cadwyn Housing Association and will be available for discounted or social rent while 358 homes will be for open market sale through Lovell. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to see this landmark development shortlisted for two titles in the First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards,” says Lovell regional managing director Kate Rees. “It recognises the success of

this brand-new community of much-

needed new homes. Our team is particularly proud that the scheme is proving so accessible for first-time buyers who would traditionally find living in such a desirable location beyond their budget. We’d love it if people are able to support the project and boost our chances of winning by voting for the development online.” Te Mill’s two-bedroom Ashton house style, which is shortlisted in the Best First Time Buyer Family Home category, has been particularly popular with first-time purchasers, thanks to its beautifully designed, family- oriented layout. On the ground floor, this attractive home features an open-plan kitchen and dining room, a separate living room with French doors leading onto the garden and a cloakroom, while upstairs are two double bedrooms and a family bathroom. In addition to developing high-quality new homes, the scheme has delivered significant investment in the local community including job and training opportunities and support for local schools and community organisations. Last year, the scheme hosted two successful Prince’s Trust Get into Construction programmes for unemployed 18 to 25 year-olds with ten of the course participants moving into jobs or apprenticeships as a result. A number of local contractors have also been engaged to work on the scheme. Te project team’s work with schools
