HAE announces business restructuring

Hire Association Europe Ltd’s Main Board has announced a major restructuring of its business operation to streamline its activities. Membership and Certification Services will become separate

divisions within HAE from June, a move designed to benefit members by targeting resources more effectively, says Graham Arundell, who will step down as MD to take up a part-time role as CEO to oversee implementation of the new set-up and achieve UKAS accredited status. Rupert Douglas-Jones is promoted to Executive Director Member

Services, responsible for management, personnel and running the Trade Association division, while, to head up SafeHire Certification Services, Carl Bartlett, who was previously General Manager with Lord Hire Centres and has significant auditing knowledge and 30 years of industry experience, will become Executive Director from 1 June. SafeHire and other HAE certification schemes will be split from Membership Services, which will focus on programmes for recruitment, training and career development. HAE states it will also develop the SafeHire process and income

Dear Sir

Having just re-read your report on break-ins throughout the North West of England (EHN, January/February 2019), we at Northern Tool Hire have never been broken into and have been trading for 25 years. Our secret is simple: put yourselves in the shoes of the burglars, physically walk round your depot and ask, "Where would I break in?” We have had an internal cage for years, internal

bars on windows and doors, but the most successful deterrent is a ram-raid type bar at the bottom of every shutter. This stops thieves from ram-raiding as well as the most common type of forced entry, namely fixing a hook and chain on the bottom of the shutter, fixing it to their car and driving forward. It works, it’s simple. When these lowlifes come weighing up our premises.

they know it's not worth it and, unfortunately, move on to easier prey. We also have confinement measures, meaning that every room, office and showroom is fitted with good mortice locks, so that if they did manage to get in, only minimum stock is available. These people want to be in and out within five minutes, and doing all the above stops them in their tracks.

Regards

Steve Jones MD, Northern Tool Hire Ltd, Ashton-under-Lyne
