EXECUTIVE REPORT continued

combines access to both our HSC and HSC MSC garden machinery and spares activity, making it simpler to do business with us.”

New product launches

A key part of the growth strategy is to introduce products with genuinely different characteristics, rather than ‘me-too’ items. The aim is to grow sales by 10% each year over the five-year period. HSC launched several new products at the Executive Hire Show, including the Delta light, a 110V 36W LED uplighter producing 3,000 lumens of 360° illumination. It has two 16A socket outlets for linking lights together and for running small power tools, and USB sockets for charging mobile phones

Pictured second from right receiving his Lifan scooter prize is Gavin Butterfield of Elvington Plant Hire with, from left, colleague Tim Garland and HSC’s Steve Watkinson and Steve Smith.

“The Show was also the perfect opportunity for us to display potential new products to gauge possible demand,” said Gary. “We showed a tripod-mounted ‘umbrella’ light giving 22,000 lumens of illumination and drawing 240W, and some smaller lights with a brighter output.

Rather than our sales team having to visit many hirers independently, by having these products on the stand we could present them to many of our customers in one place to get their immediate feedback.”

New also are a range of transformers in HSC’s Elite line-up. These are designed to prevent the operator overloading the unit, resulting in downtime for the user and complaints to hirers when it might be the customer’s responsibility. A thermostat is incorporated to cut the power if a pre-set temperature is reached. The stackable units have recessed sockets and a cable tidy, and are available in 3kVA and 5kVA.

A competition held on the stand to win a Lifan electric scooter was won by Gavin Butterfield of Elvington Plant Hire. He was able to stop the moving light on a predetermined spot on five different locations in the fastest time to open a vault in an astonishing 16 seconds. HSC MSC also received an order for the scooter from Rocket Rentals of Gloucestershire. “This product is another good example of our willingness to explore new ideas,” said Gary, “and hirers can expect to see more in the future.”
