MARKET REPORT POWER GENERATION & GREEN ENERGY continued

New Chicago quartet

Chicago Pneumatic has expanded its range of portable generators with four new CPPG inverter models, designed for contractors who require a quick, clean and reliable source of AC power below 3kW. The machines have a recoil starter and thermal protective

characteristics to enable them to operate in tough construction site environments and harsh weather conditions. They are available with petrol engines and either 4 or 10-litre fuel tanks. Models are available in 50Hz and 60Hz variants, with the CPPG 2i/CPPG 2iW and CPPG 3.5/CPPG 3.5iW providing nominal power outputs of 1.6kVA and 3kVA respectively.

Now established for 13 years, in 2015 Sutton Power Engineering became the UK distributor for Italian generator manufacturer, Onis Visa, offering industrial diesel and LPG machines from 2kVA up to 3500kVA. It also formed a further partnership with Europower, the Belgian compact generator set maker.

“The Europower range enables us to supply 3,000rpm and 1,500rpm petrol and diesel sets

with Honda, Yanmar, Kubota and Volvo engines to AMF (automatic mains failure) standby installations and Tier IIIA portable applications,” said Andy Durno, Sales Director. “These complement the Perkins , Iveco, John Deere and Doosan models in the Onis Visa range.” Sutton Power also designs and builds its own ranges, including the Cabinmaster and Chieftain brands.

Gaia Renewable Energy is a new entrant into the market and is introducing the Solatainer to the construction industry. The machine is a hybrid generator that combines solar photovoltaic technology, battery storage, inverters and a small diesel or petrol generator. The company says the unit was recently

used by Costain to run a site, powered by a 45kVA generator, for over 150 hours silently and emission-free. “Site Manager Chris Rochford said that the unit could revolutionise site set-ups, and Environmental Lead Ellie Walshe was particularly impressed to make the team a cup of tea using the kettle powered by solar power alone,” said Gaia Sales Director, Mike Robbins, who previously worked for Firefly. “The Solatainer has also been deployed as a modular solution on other sites, replacing a conventional 100kVA diesel generator. To see a site run for five days on solar alone was fantastic, and our target now is to run a site continually for 168 hours, with zero emissions.”
