Kobelco partners with Engcon at bauma 2019

Geosystems joined forces to produce Kobleco’s first

tiltrotator-compatible excavator. The excavator utilises the latest 3D Machine Control (3DMC) technology from Leica Geosystems with market leading tiltrotator technology from Engcon.

KOBELCO Construction Machinery, one of the world's largest excavator manufacturers, collaborated with Engcon and Leica Geosystems to showcase an automatic digging excavator with tiltrotator functionality at this year’s bauma trade fair.

The three manufacturers

have worked in partnership to develop a system that can control the excavator’s boom movement, position, tilt and rotation angle of the bucket with a single lever. The flexibility of the system means that operators can choose to automatically use a combination of these movements to provide maximum control.

CEO of Engcon group, Krister Blomgren, said: “This innovative technology could not have been developed without strong creativity and co-operation between our companies and the overall process has been an exciting one. Our technology is getting more and more attention from operators as they realise its efficiency benefits and it’s great seeing it on display at a huge event like bauma.

“bauma is an important event for Engcon as it provides the perfect platform for us to bring our solutions directly to operators. It is always incredibly rewarding to meet operators that have used our products and exciting to showcase Engcon to operators that are yet to do so.”

Kobelco's automatic excavator and tiltrotator system is planned for release in Europe during the first quarter of 2020.

Willowbrook Plant throws birthday party for digger-mad Charlie

FIVE-year-old Corby youngster Charlie Parkes is the embodiment of a young digger enthusiast, so much so that his mother Laura is constantly looking to give him his next digger fix.

For his recent 5th birthday she contacted the team behind the Hyundai Facebook page asking if Hyundai could send him a birthday card. The Hyundai UK team said that they could do better than that and promptly spoke to Northamptonshire based Hyundai dealer, Willowbrook Plant Sales.

Among other medical challenges Charlie has faced in his short life, he is also on the pathway to an autistic spectrum, attachment disorder and ADHD diagnosis – this is where his obsession with diggers and tractors has come from.

The Willowbrook team, headed by Andy Greensmith, Drew Bishop and Tony Wilcox, went above and beyond the call of duty to make it a very special day for Charlie and the Parkes family.

First up was a look at the new 13-tonne class HX130LCR which is the replacement for the outgoing R125LCR and features the 55kw engine with no AdBlue requirement. This was followed by some seat time in the 22 tonne class Hyundai HX220L.

The entourage were then all taken out the back to Willowbrook’s dedicated demo dig plot which is located in the shadow of the Rockingham

Speedway stadium corner stand. It was here that Charlie and sister Chloe played ‘hook a duck’ with diggers, and even used a Hyundai HX140L to shoot footballs into a football net.

Asked about his future, proud mum Laura said: “I have absolutely no doubt that he will go on to work in the industry. There really is nothing else that he engages so well with or that holds his interest so well.”
