ESTABLISHED in 1993, Monks Contractors is a family run business which is based on a 6.5-acre site in Blackburn, where the company operate a full-scale HGV, mechanical and electronic workshop alongside a fl eet of single and double drive wagons, and state-of-the-art plant machinery.
From very small beginnings the company has developed into a successful haulage, plant supply, and waste management provider, and has a portfolio of multi-national blue-chip clients.
Recently the company has invested in two Terex® Ecotec TDS 820 Slow Speed Shredders ,which have been supplied by Warwick Ward, a UK distributor for the full TEREX® Ecotec Range.
Monks Contractors investment in two Terex® Ecotec TDS 820 Slow Speed Shredders - aggressive slow speed tracked shredders suitable for all types of material - forms part of the expansion of their services to the waste industry.
MD Chris Monk said: “We went into recycling approximately 15 years ago, which really happened by chance when we had an opportunity to move into the industry.
"We had been providing material handlers and loading shovels and transport for several blue-chip waste companies, and only entered the shredder market when a client who had a shredder on hire approached us for help as they were not happy with it.
"Their requirement was to simply reduce the waste down to a specifi c size for incineration. We realised this was an opportunity
to invest in a shredder, and as we have sourced equipment from Warwick Ward for many years, it made sense to approach them.”
The TDS 820 (above) was presented to Monks Contractors on-site, before a long-term hire agreement was agreed for two shredders at their Blackburn and Knowsley sites.
James Tunnicliff e of Warwick Ward, added: “We sold a number of machines over the years to Monks Contractors, and when Chris approached us we arranged a demo of the TDS 820.
"Customisable shredding programmes allow operators to confi gure a machine to their specifi c requirements, and easily achieve 40 TPH on diffi cult material."
