EDITOR'S VIEWPOINT
LAST month's column was a look at how I.T. has taken over all our lives, and was based on a technological 'error' which had me frothing at the mouth.
So I've decided to concentrate this month on a similar theme in the shape of email messages, and how we react nowadays to receiving them.
We all get blitzed with emails every day and yet secretly we subconsciously enjoy receiving them - even though we tell our colleagues that we don't.
However, as someone who was about at the onset of electronic mail (yes, there were horses on the streets back then), I recall the thrill of getting any email in the early days when it was shiny and new.
The thing that has recently struck me is how the protocol has changed since then. If you didn't quickly reply back in nineteen-canteen, this was deemed as rude, or even a snub.

In these days it was a race to reply, and if you didn't reply quickly it could make a difference to business relationships.
Step forward to today and our so-called
fast moving society, and guess what? Loads of people just ignore emails, to the point where it's actually a surprise when you get a response.
It's no longer deemed as rude - socially or otherwise - for companies to just ignore emails under the general spam banner. Or when they give a body swerve to any email for whatever reason they choose.
That's why we decided to adopt an old school approach to WASTE'18, our July 5 Expo in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
If you got a personal letter through the post from me with a special stand offer, please enjoy the rarity of the moment.
