Anniversary Sale sees top of £2120


The 50th Anniversary show and sale of dairy cattle at Lancaster on Monday 20th July, saw a tremendous show of heifers forward for judge Tony Bell, Silverdale.


Top price on the day was Pennine Poppy 1179, an Outside Jeeves daughter from Drinkall Brothers, that sold one month calved and giving 33kg for £2120 to Messrs Coulthurst, Longridge.


Newbirks champion at Craven Dairy Auction


The opening September show and sale on Monday 7th September at Skipton saw trade peak at £2000 for the pre-sale champion Newbirks Heliotrope 345. This Curtismill Mr Sam daughter was consigned by David Lawson and sold three weeks fresh giving 32 litres to Alf and Andrew Townsend, Burnley.


Averages: cows in milk £1192, heifers in milk £1479, in-calf heifers £1270, heifer calves £300. (CCM Auctions)


£2550 top at Beeston Mid Month


On 11th August trade at Wright Marshall’s Mid Month sale was up to a top of £2550 for Whinchat Lauthority Savoire Fare. Bred and consigned by Andrew Birkle she carries 10 generations of straight Excellent dams and sold to an undisclosed breeder in West Wales.


Averages: 93 cows £1091.98, 136 milking heifers £1302.42, 41 in- calf and served heifers £1172.93, 32 maiden heifers £721.24, 20 heifer calves £307.96. (Wright Marshall)


Top 10% Sale at Sedgemoor Auction


Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Annual Top 10% sale attracted 300 head to Sedgemoor on Tuesday 11th August. The sale reflected the current milk crisis, but even in these difficult times trade peaked at 4300gns for M A Jeanes’ Stowey Aikman Jill.


This heifer from the renowned Jessica family carries a PLI of +£388 and GTPI of 2029. She sold due to calve in September to the Lynchmead herd.


The sale also included the annual Spotlight Sale which saw Sahara Massey Ashlyn sell to Wales for 3000gns.


Champion at the September Craven Dairy Auction was Newbirks Heliotrope 345, reserve was the second prize heifer from Malcom Smith.


Collective sale averages: calved cows £1627.50, calved heifers £1605.86, bulls £1233.75, heifer calves £380.63, Stowey consignment averages: calved heifers £1565.55, in-calf and served heifers £1158, heifers calves £305.55, R J and E J Collier’s dispersal average: cows and heifers £1006.25, in-calf heifers £1033.20.
