Craven Dairy Auction peaks at £2100


Top price at the Craven Dairy Auction on Monday 27th July was Mark and Karen Calvert’s reserve champion. This fourth lactation Shottle daughter, Calton Shottle Ruby 2 EX90, is backed by 10 generations of VG or EX and sold giving 55kgs for £2100 to William Oldfield, Gisburn

The dispersal of the Barlees herd was up to a top of 5000gns.


Beeston Month-End Dairy Sale up to £2300


The Wright Marshall Month End Sale on 31st July saw prices rise to £2300 for Blacksnape Million Dolly 2nd from Harold and Pat Crapper, Dronfield. Backed by eight generations of VG and EX dams she goes back to the wonderful show cow Elmdae Citamatt Dolly EX97-3E. She sold giving 32kg daily to Leonora Whitfield for her Alderbarrow herd.


Barlees dispersal


A large crowd of Yorkshire breeders, together with others from across the UK gathered on farm at Stokesley on 6th August for the dispersal of Donaldson Partners’ Barlees herd.


The herd had more


than 60 years of history and was being sold


due to a reorganisation of the family farming partnership. Trade


peaked at 5000gns for Barlees Marie VG86, a Shottle daughter out of the well known Denmire Gibson Marie 22 EX94 who sold for 18,000gns in 2008 at the Smiddiehill dispersal. After keen bidding the hammer fell to Andrew and Euan Lawrie,


Grangehall Holsteins. Her 16 month old


daughter by Gen-I-Beq Lavaman carried a PLI of +£342 and sold for the second top price of 4200gns to Robert and Elaine Butterfield, Ingleview Holsteins.


July Craven Dairy Auction champion Longstar Medley Stephanie sold for £1750, while the reserve Calton Shottle Ruby 2 made £2100.


3000gns for Golden Opportunity


The annual Golden Opportunity Sale at Sedgemoor in July saw trade rise to 3000gns for an in-calf heifer consigned by Henllan Farms. Caeremlyn Alexander Lulu is out of eight


generations of VG or EX dams.


Collective sale averages: cows in milk (including A lots) £1508, heifers in milk £1806.53, in-calf heifers £1248, heifer calves £527.50; Henllan Farms consignment: 52 served heifers £1192.35, three embryo heifer calves £1960, one embryo bull calf £450. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt)


Twin yearling heifers lead commercial dispersal sale


Averages: 93 cows and heifers in milk £1936.63 (including 31 heifer calves at £906.05), 26 served heifers £1561.67, 21 maiden heifers £1394. (Norton and Brooksbank)


Pedigree breeding was in demand at the Adair family’s commercial dispersal on the 30th July in Dorset when twin yearling heifers Marcroft Ric Elsa Shower Red and Marcroft Ric Anna Shower Red both sold for 3500gns. Sired by Stantons Altaric-Red they are out of the Wisconsin-Red daughter Moorshard ADW Shower Red VG85.
