For the first time ever, UK Holstein clubs have had the opportunity to select judges for the National Holstein Calf Show and National Showmanship Competition, based on a panel shortlisted by the Holstein UK Show and Sale Committee. Judging the National Holstein Calf Show is Brian Miller of the ‘Moorshard’ prefix. Brian has a degree in Agricultural Economics from Reading University and since leaving university has worked on the family farm of 200 Holsteins, taking responsibility for managing the cows. Brian has judged many shows in the UK, including: The Dairy Event, Cheshire Show, Welsh Dairy Show, Western Spring Show, Stafford Show, Suffolk Show, Kent Show, South of England Show and Garstang Show. He has also judged 12 All Britain Calf Show qualifiers and currently sits on the European Judges Panel.
Judging the National Showmanship Competition is the well-known and respected cattle photographer Jane Steel. Jane is actively involved with her family farm near Loch Lomond where she has her own herd of cattle there under the ‘Lomond’ prefix enjoying numerous show and sale ring successes.
Jane has judged many shows in the UK, judging milking classes, calves and showmanship. She has also travelled to Ireland to judge the All Ireland Showmanship Competition, to Germany to judge the Sachsischer Holstein Tage and to Australia to judge the Guernseys at International Dairy Week.
