WESTERN HOLSTEIN CLUB
Our 2016 activities got off to a great start with our Top 10 Winter Herd Competition, sponsored by Semex. A total of 13 herds entered their Top 10 cows and in-milk heifers over 18th and 19th February 2016. Judge, Michael Dennison, Denmire, has judged the best small herd and the best large herd, with an additional champion cow award, all to be presented at our AGM at the end of March. We’ll share the results with you later. We’re pleased to have a special speaker at this year’s AGM as our Life Member, Dick Stapleton, will be giving a talk on ‘The Life of Dick Stapleton’. In the meantime the Western Club are looking forward to our annual dinner and dance to be held once again at Carden Park Hotel on 18th March and preparations are underway to hold our Spring Show at Southview Equestrian Centre on 6th April. This show features calves through to mature cows and always attracts entrants from
several counties, not just Cheshire. Natalie Sneller and Steve Winnington of
Worldwide Sires will be giving another talk at the Wild Boar Hotel on 18th April. The first was well attended and appreciated, so we’re sure that this will be a popular event. To round off spring events we’ll be holding our spring bull sale as part of the Focus Milk Sale on Friday 29th April 2016 at Beeston Castle Auctions. It’s also worth mentioning here that our Wexham Cup bull show and sale will be brought forward to 1st September 2016 at Beeston. Our summer calendar commences with stock judging evenings and then we’re quickly into Cheshire and Nantwich Shows, so it’s all go for the Western Club team. Fingers crossed the rain holds off.
Finishing on a high note, we are pleased to announce that Steve Phillips has been elected to the position of vice chairman of the Club.
