63 Name:

How long have you been in HYB? I have been a member for 10 years, the same year as I first competed at Devon Holstein Club’s Calf Show at Mid Devon Show and had champion calf. That was it, I had been bitten by the bug.

What have your highlights been? Coming 7th at ABAB calf show as junior handler my first time and being part of Devon A team coming 3rd at the rally 2014.

What is your favourite event in the HYB calendar? The All Breeds All Britain Calf Show is definitely my favourite event.

What do you think you’ve gained from HYB? Friends all with the same passion for cows. I have also learned so much being behind the scenes at shows like All Breeds All Britain by watching people clipping and picking up their techniques and also watching the showmanship classes.

What other hobbies do you have? I am an active member of Young Farmers and until recently I’ve enjoyed playing hockey, but have temporarily stopped.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Hopefully with a degree and a career involving my favourite passion – cows.

Jess Tapp Age: 18 Club: Devon Prefi x: Chettiscombe Occupation: I’m currently a student studying for a degree in Agricultural Management.

What would you say to someone to encourage them to take part in HYB? Go for it - you won't regret it! There's so much you can gain from being a member whether it’s participating in competitions and making memories for life or going to farm visits and seeing some of the best herds the UK has to offer.

What would you like to see new added to the HYB programme?

Some training and activity days in the winter months, it would be a great way to meet up with friends, see cows and practice for the upcoming season.
