It is time for a government that puts the people first. Only Labour has the vision and determination for our people

system that ensures no one falls through the cracks, and more.

Brian highlighted that any Tory promises to end austerity cannot be trusted.

“People should not be fooled. The government recently said it will end the benefits freeze but let’s not forget that was due to happen anyway – and it won’t make up for the years of freezes that have left struggling families destitute,” he said. “Their so-called Tory magic money tree of £24bn will evaporate once the economy unravels and taxation withers under their leadership. Under the Tories, we will be right back to where we started – never-ending austerity for our local communities.”

Local Labour councillor Chrissie Rumbsy, who volunteers with the

Unite Community project, urged people to get out and vote.

“We have to get the Tories out,” she said. “People are literally dying under government austerity and I honestly cannot see our communities surviving another Tory government.”

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey agreed. “Austerity was always the political choice of the Tories and their Lib Dems chums and, whatever the government tries to claim, it is not over and never will be while they are in power,” he said.

“It is time for a

government that puts the people first. Only Labour has the vision and determination for our people in which the chronic under-funding of our schools, hospitals and emergency services will cease.”
