Just Polos by AWDis www.justpolosbyawdis.com How to ensure polo shirt backorders are embroidered with the same colours

When working with multi-coloured embroidered polo shirts for customers, merchandise at sporting events or retail stores, it’s important that colourways are consistent for re-ordering and topping up stock levels. Maria Palma of Wilcom explains how using EmbroideryStudio.

Designs created in Wilcom’s EmbroideryStudio software are saved as EMB fi les. This is a smart embroidery fi le format that contains all the design and customer data, such as object properties, stitch data, customer detail, colour information, and more.

The best place to record or register design colours is with the design itself. Unlimited colourways can be saved to any single embroidery design in EmbroideryStudio, creating a permanent record of the design’s colours for each colour variant of the product.

Many Wilcom customers have found that using the Product.Colour code for the colourway heading is a good naming convention. For example, Polo.Red. This will make locating the product and colour easier later. Once the colourway is named, assign the desired thread colours for each colour block or needle colour. At the same time, add a background colour to the design to visualise the design’s colours on the product’s colours. As the colourway is saved in the designs .EMB fi le, you will easily access the important colour information for back orders and repeat future orders every time.

Embroidery production

Once the embroidery designs are digitised and colourways assigned, output the Production Worksheets for the machinists. EmbroideryStudio Worksheets can be customised to provide everything production needs to complete the job, including the embroidery design in the exact 1:1 size. With a single click, individual colourways are printed for each garment colour in the order. In addition to the worksheet, other report options are available such as the Production Summary sheet. The single-page Production Summary includes the design information such as size, number of colours, thread length etc., and includes all the colourways you select to print for the current job.

Importantly the Production Summary provides the machinists with a quick overview of the current order. At a glance, they can decide on the machine needle colour assignment to achieve economies of scale for the production department. To ensure thread colour consistency in future orders, design colour combinations must be recorded, and it’s easy with Wilcom’s fl agship
