Zamperla spins serpent story with Sidewinder Safari

Park World fi nds out more about the new attraction at Discovery Kingdom which combines a roller coaster ride with reptile encounters

ith its 2022 debut, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom’s Sidewinder Safari slithers along a slinky coaster track,

delighting guests of all ages and abilities. Part of Zamperla’s classic Twister Coaster collection, Sidewinder Safari adds new thrills and animal encounters to the Northern California park. Adam Sandy, sales and marketing director

for Zamperla’s roller coaster division, shared his insight about the relationship between Six Flags and his team to debut the serpentine attraction. “Sidewinder Safari was originally supposed

to open in 2020,” he says. “As everyone dealt with the ongoing impact of COVID-19, our partnership with Six Flags strengthened and we looked forward to the day when we would open Sidewinder Safari.”

between the two experiences. Located next to the Temple of the Tiger stadium, the park developed a themed area surrounding the coaster to house and share live animal encounters and conservation messages about snakes and reptiles. Immediately immersing guests in their own

snake-pit, Six Flags animal ambassadors help provide up close and personal guest experiences with rattlesnakes and other reptiles as they ready their Sidewinder Safari ride. With memorable fun facts about creepy crawlers and a ride on over 1,300 feet of bright yellow and green track, the result is a new experience that seamlessly combines education with spinning coaster fun. “The shared partnership between Zamperla

and Six Flags that brought this ride to the park was so important,” Sandy continues. “Even with the long delay, everyone came together, focused on a successful installation and a memorable coaster experience for the park and its guests. Six Flags went the extra mile theming

the area around the ride, creating a beautiful station. Adding the reptile encounters and park ambassadors to communicate with guests as they 'snake' their way through the queue helps build excitement and complete the story.” General manager Dameon Nelson adds: “Six

Flags Discovery Kingdom is known for being a leader in providing both traditional theme park thrills plus animal educational opportunities for our guests. With the addition of Sidewinder Safari, we had the chance to blend both aspects into a single attraction the entire family can experience together.” The new exhibit elements that help tell the

attraction’s story include eight species of snakes, including the Egyptian horned viper, and a Gila monster, a venomous lizard native to the Southwestern United States and Sonora, Mexico. Arboreal snakes (those that spend most of their

lives in trees) and terrestrial snakes (those that spend most of their lives on the ground) live in
