Going places

Lars Goldenbogen tells Park World abouts the latest developments from Mack Animation and the Flying Theatre format as a whole

F

lying Theatre attractions have lost nothing of their popularity. Even after years, they remain one of the most popular attractions with guests of all ages. And as a weather-independent, all-year attraction, they are also very

popular with operators. I think for many guests Flying Theatres are the closest to having a completely immersive experience without putting any VR goggles on. The biggest new development in Flying Theatres is probably the LED dome

screens. They are a huge step forward in terms of resolution and contrast and offer a breathtaking visual experience. Thanks to the ‘Sphere’, in Las Vegas this technology got a lot of attention. But

LED screens are a lot more demanding in terms of image quality than the older generations of projection systems were. It is fun to see how the storytelling in Flying Theatre films is evolving with every

film. There is still a lot to explore in this film format. On one hand there is some spectacular action that can be done and on the other is even more emotional storytelling. We always try to find the right tone for each project and location. With every film we are trying new perspectives and movements. We are currently finishing a production for Brogent Technologies called ‘It’s

Africa’. It is a film that will take people to the most spectacular places of Africa. The beauty of landscapes and historic sites in Africa is just breathtaking. This is also the first film that we have used our new four camera-rig, to film in the highest possible quality. It is produced in a 10k resolution, to be future-proof for all new high resolution LED dome systems. Seeing the images is absolutely amazing; it really is like you are right there. Beyond that, we are currently shooting our fifth Flying Theatre film which will

be finished in early 2025, and preparing and location-scouting for the sixth and seventh films. The demand for new films is quite high at the moment and we love doing these projects. This is a great development for the Flying Theatre format because it means that there will also be a lot more content in the future to licence for existing Flying Theatres as well.
