JULY 2019 3

Business is a funny thing. If I had gone into a bookie and asked for the odds on Eldorado buying out Caesars, they would have probably called an ambulance for me. And yet, it’s on. As a result, the Las Vegas Strip is going to change a lot, as mergers and acquisitions tend to bring questions about monopolies and market share, et cetera. Much of the centre Strip is divided between MGM and Caesars, and if/when Eldorado looks to offload some of those properties, there will be no shortage of takers – assuming the price is right. With the stalled/late developments in recent years on the Strip, this kind of sale could be a big part of reinvigorating properties in an area with historically seriously expensive real estate prices. In short, it’s probably the most exciting development for the Strip for a long, long time. And that’s not even thinking about the other properties they own worldwide… Or the tens of thousands of people they employ. Hopefully, the acquisition will see the company profitable and with a strong long-term future. As with all things, time will tell.
