kinds The Zehnder family of entrepreneurs begins with Jakob Zehnder (born in 1855). He builds a house and small mechanical workshop in Gränichen, Switzerland.
1923 A light motorcycle
conquers Switzerland The Zehnder brothers develop and sell the legendary “Zehnderli” light motorcycle.
1964 Start of global
expansion In view of growing competition in Germany, the Zehnder company decides to open its own dedicated production plant near Freiburg in Breisgau.
1980 Entry into radiant ceiling
panel market Zehnder expands its portfolio to include radiant ceiling panels, which are ideal for heating industrial halls and commercial buildings.
1996 First production site
in China Zehnder becomes the fi rst foreign company to enter the Chinese radiator market.
2007 Industry in its
sights Zehnder establishes a fourth business fi eld with air cleaning systems for industry, logistics and the food and beverage sectors.
2020 A service provider
and pioneer Today, Zehnder is a leading international provider of complete solutions for a healthy and comfortable indoor climate, and employs approximately 3500 people.

Pioneering spirit The Zehnder story started in 1895, when Jakob Zehnder established a small workshop in Gränichen in Switzerland, marking the first page in a success story that the fourth generation of the Zehnder family continues to write to this day. Whether as a workshop or as the producer of the legendary “Zehnderli” light motorcycle, the name Zehnder has always been synonymous with innovation. Over the years, Zehnder has undergone an impressive process of change, reinventing itself in line with the times.
Revolutionising the indoor heating market In the 1930s the Zehnder brothers found their forte, designing and developing the world’s first ever steel tube radiator - The Zehnder Charleston - which quickly established its place on the market. Since then, the Charleston has played a leading role in the company’s success with continuous advances in the quality of production methods and technology keeping the Charleston multi-column at the forefront of the radiator market.

Global growth and industry expansion At the turn of the millennium, Zehnder joined the comfort ventilation business and in 2007 established a fourth business field with clean air solutions for industry, logistics and the food and beverage sectors. 2013 saw the opening of the Zehnder logistics centre in Lahr, Germany, providing a hub for European deliveries. Tony Twohig, Managing Director at Zehnder,
said: “From humble beginnings as a small family business, Zehnder has grown to employ around 3,500 people across 70 countries, providing customers around the world with a range of energy-efficient solutions for a healthy, comfortable indoor climate.
Zehnder joins the comfort ventilation business, an area that undergoes regular expansion in subsequent years.
