INDUSTRY UPDATE THE TILE ASSOCIATION COLUMN

TTA voted on to the Build UK Board

T

TA is pleased to announce the election of its Chief Executive Officer Kay Porter to the Board of Build UK. Build UK is the leading

representative organisation within the construction industry, numbering clients, contractors and specialist trade associations amongst its membership. Its aim is to provide a single voice for the construction supply chain and it is the first point of contact for Government departments, such as BEIS, the Cabinet Office and The Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities (DLUHC), and works closely with bodies such as the Construction Leadership Council and CBI. Build UK has played a leading role throughout the pandemic and the challenges of Brexit by providing information for its members, partly via its weekly updates, and by consistently lobbying Government departments to ensure that the voice of construction is heard loud and clear. For TTA to have achieved such a position, holding one of the eight

board positions, reflects the hard work that the Association has been carrying out on behalf of its members over many years, but in particular during the challenges of the past two years. “We recognise the support that TTA continues to provide to us in our

work representing the construction industry,” says Suzannah Nichol MBE, Build UK’s Chief Executive, “so I am very pleased to welcome Kay and TTA to our Board.” “TTA gaining this position on the Build UK Board gives us the ability to

contribute to the vital work of the Board and the team at Build UK even more strongly than in the past,” says Kay Porter. “I am very grateful for the support my nomination received from Build UK Specialist Trade Association members. I would also like to thank the outgoing Directors for their amazing work during a very challenging term and I very much look forward to working as a member of the new board going forward.” “Gaining senior level representation on the Build UK Board is great

news for TTA,” says TTA Chairman Paul Luff. “I firmly believe this achievement is recognition for the much increased profile of TTA over the past 18 months, during which Kay has attended and participated in Build UK meetings and as we have strengthened our relationships with key bodies, including Build UK, CLC, CPA and BEIS. I hope that our closer relationship to Government and the wider construction industry, which our seat on the Board of Build UK gives us, will mean that we are even better able to represent the views and business interests of our members, whatever challenges the future brings. This is great news for all TTA members!”

UWLA calls for bathroom industry to work together as Nations prepare to tackle climate change at COP26

T

he Unified Water Label Association, (UWLA) has urged the bathroom industry to come together and support its

Water Matters message, as the United Nations come together at COP26 in Glasgow on 31 October. More than 190 world leaders are expected at COP26, along with tens

of thousands of negotiators, government representatives, businesses and citizens for twelve days of talks. It is widely regarded as not just another international summit but one at which there will be real and tangible commitments on how to tackle climate change. They have identified four goals which cover; securing global net zero by mid-century and keeping 1.5 degrees within reach, adapting to protect communities and natural habitats, mobilising finance and working together. UWLA MD Yvonne Orgill says, “We welcome the fourth key aim for

COP26, which is to work together to deliver results. The United Nations have realised that the only way to turn ambitions into actions is collaboration and partnership. “This is also a central ethos for the UWLA’s Water Matters campaign.

We want everyone to play their part to reduce CO2 by helping people understand the link between using water, energy and carbon wisely. “Bathroom products are at the heart of water use in the home as over

60% of water used in the domestic environment is used in the bathroom, and 25% of energy used in the home is associated with heating hot water, with 18% of the UK carbon emissions emanating from the home. “We have a fantastic range of products available that carry the Unified

Water Label. These are innovative products that deliver good performance but use less water and energy. We now need to promote these products more, make the label visible and help consumers make more informed choices, which will result in behaviour change for the benefit of the planet. “Like the United Nations at COP26, we have to realise that the time for

talking is over, we have to work together to take action and facilitate change. You can find out more about the Water Matters campaign and the Unified Water Label at uwla.eu.
