Claygate sets out its blueprint for the future ….

In order to meet the on-going needs of business in a post-Brexit era, Claygate Distribution owners, Mel and Andrew Streek have taken the decision to rationalise the business structure of Claygate Distribution Ltd. Their aim is to provide a platform to grow in the future utilising an already robust Senior Management Team. To formalise this

process Claygate Distribution Limited has set out its blueprint for the future by entering into an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) with its staff as the beneficiaries. The day-to-day running of Claygate Distribution Ltd will become the

responsibility of the Directors. The Employee Ownership Trust have appointed three Trustees, one of these being Andrew Streek. The Trustees will provide a guiding role for the Directors. Claygate Distribution Ltd. will continue to build on the legacy that Mel

and Andrew Streek have built up over the last 35 years when they first set up Claygate Distribution Limited. “The last few years have been very challenging for all businesses, but it

has shown us that our management team and our staff are ready to take us to the next level” comments Mel. Andrew adds “We have very experienced staff in all aspects of our business many of whom, have been with us from day one. This journey has only been made possible because of the depth of professional staff we have here at Claygate”.

BIKBBI calls on the industry to support new apprenticeship scheme in a bid to solve skills gap crisis

new apprenticeship programme, which aims to tackle the long-term skills gap crisis, by offering installers easy and affordable access to apprentices with a ground-breaking employer package. At a press event held on 26thOctober BiKBBI CEO, Damian Walters

T

revealed plans to introduce a solution enabling installers to take on apprentices without the complications of recruitment, employment and training, thanks to a ground-breaking package developed through a network of strategic partners. The KBB Fitted Interiors Apprenticeship programme will create job

opportunities for hundreds of youngsters within the KBB installation sector, via a national network of approved Centres of Excellence, providing apprentices with a first-class foundation to their installation career whilst tackling the immediate worker shortages and longer-term skills gap challenge. Recognising that most installers are small businesses having to carefully watch costs, BIKBBI’s package means that apprentices can be taken on and have all wages and other costs covered for as little as £210 per week. The launch of the apprenticeship package follows stark evidence of the

dire need to bring new recruits into the industry, with a recent BiKBBI survey revealing that a third of sole trader installers plan on retiring within the next ten years and less than 10% of employers believe there is a good supply of qualified installers. Walters said: “We’ve worked hard on this package of support, and for

the first time installers of all sizes can afford to take on an apprentice, without the complication sometimes associated with apprenticeships. This is a real game changer for our industry and it’s going to make a difference for hundreds of installation businesses but we need the whole industry to get behind the scheme by spreading the word and encouraging installation businesses to sign up.” Whether you’re an installer or installation business, a retailer, supplier,

distributor or manufacturer, you can get involved in a number of ways – and we need your support. Simply visit www.bikbbi.org.uk/apprenticeships for more information.
