BMA Bathroom and Kitchen Conference a Triumph A sell-out conference
T
he 2019 Bathroom & Kitchen Business Conference was hailed a
triumph by delegates, who gathered at the Carden Park Hotel, Cheshire on 08 October.
Tom Reynolds, BMA CEO said, “It was a supercharged day with something for everyone. All the major issues that impact on the bathroom industry were covered, including compliance, global markets, design influences, trends and a fascinating insight into what the future of trade may look like post Brexit.
Inspirational and informative speakers The sell-out conference featured a programme of speakers on a range of topics, all aimed at providing valuable information about how to achieve business success during the challenging and uncertain times that prevail. Well respected bathroom industry professional
Tim Pollard was facilitator for the day. The day began with Ellis Watson, Executive
Chairman and former CEO of DC Thomson, who set a high standard for the day. He gave an energetic and outstanding motivational speech brimming with humour and original thinking. He talked about how to be brave, manage change,
create a positive culture, and inspire enthusiasm throughout an organisation. Other speakers included; Philip Crosbie from Eversheds who spoke about the law and compliance, Suzie Williford from NKBA introduced the Global Connect initiative, David Henig Director at the UK Trade Policy Project, European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE) explored the implications of Brexit on trade and David Harrop and Dan Thirkell from research data company BRG provided an overview of the global bathroom market. In the afternoon, trends specialist Cate Trotter
looked at the changing face of retail and then hosted a design influence and trends panel. Hayley Robson from Day True, Lindsay Blair from
Kitchens, Bedrooms and Bathrooms magazine and Marianne Shillingford from Akzonobel Dulux discussed their thoughts and took questions from the audience.
Gala dinner and special party to celebrate the retirement of former BMA CEO Yvonne Orgill BMA President Alan Dodds and Darren Summerfield, Commercial Director at Immediate Media, paid tribute to Yvonne with a humorous ‘what has Yvonne Orgill done for the bathroom Industry’ review of Yvonne’s career. This highlighted her success with the Unified Water Label and how her influential position provided a positive role model for other women in the industry. Alan said, “Yvonne has tremendous energy and
passion for the bathroom industry. She has poured her heart and soul into developing and leading the BMA, building a solid base of committed members. She leaves us with a strong and vibrant association to take forward.”
Charity raffle raises over £1,000 for Children’s Burns Trust Guests at the Bathroom and Kitchen Business Conference raised £1,150.00 for the BMA’s charity Children’s Burns Trust (CBT). The money came from a charity raffle held at
the gala dinner, which was supported with fourteen donated prizes that included lunch for two at Gordon Ramsey’s Savoy Grill with champagne, an Apple Watch and an IPad.
