Carl continues: “The BKU Awards is designed to recognise excellence in the kitchen and bathroom industry and reward success, hard work and dedication, thereby shining a spotlight on the best manufacturers, retailers and individuals in the sector. I am delighted to see such important and valued names on the shortlist.”
The only Award not determined by votes is the Lifetime Achievement Award, designed to recognise an individual or individuals who has/have served the kitchen and/or bathroom industry for more than 20 years and played a significant role in its success. On 10 June, a panel of top industry experts convened to judge this year’s entrants. The panel was formed of Jonathan Swift, BKU Magazine’s editor, Ray Isted, corporate communication consultant, Graham Hayden, owner of a KBB training company, Uwe Hanneck, chief executive of KBSA and Yvonne Orgill, Chief Executive of BMA. The winner will be announced on the night.

How we got here
The BKU Awards 2017 kicked off when entries opened in December last year. The response was phenomenal, with 405 individual entries and nominations submitted before midnight on Friday 31 March 2017, an amount that nearly doubles last year’s total.
Voting commenced on 18 April 2017. The industry had just over five weeks to vote, during which time thousands of votes flooded in for all categories. Competition has never before been so tight, with all entrants backed by an incredible show of support. The industry was kept in suspense as voting was extended for three days due to only a fraction of votes separating the leading entries from the rest in a few categories.
Commenting on the participation this year, event and publication manager Carl Hearnden says: “The support and involvement from the industry in the BKU Awards 2017 has surpassed all expectations. There has been a record-breaking amount of votes keeping us all on the edge of our seats throughout the voting stage.
“I would like to congratulate all of our finalists. The competition this year was really tough so everyone should be very proud for having reached this stage; it truly is a great achievement.”
The BKU Awards 2017 will be hosted by the brilliant Jimmy Carr. One of the most distinctive talents on television, Jimmy is known for his deadpan sense of humour and his signature laugh. Starring in many TV programmes over the years, including the topical panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats, the weekly satire 10 O’Clock Live and the ever-popular Have I Got News For You, Jimmy has become a star of British comedy. With his poker-faced delivery and witty one-liners, Jimmy is bound to provide an evening of entertainment.
Make sure you attend the BKU Awards 2017 for a chance to celebrate all of your hard work and reward your staff with a well-deserved night out with some of the biggest names in the industry.
