torage space is at a premium in most homes now and especially so in the kitchen. With the increasing trend for open plan living, the kitchen now stores more than just kitchen objects and this has influenced kitchen furniture design.

Media furniture is perhaps the best example. We are now seeing furniture for the kitchen that would have been used in a living room before, designed to store the media required for TV and computer games. There are also many more options for furniture to be dual purpose, both a kitchen item and a living room item, shelving systems for example that are more like bookcases, or open shelves to display items built into islands and wall units.
Kitchen designers have a much wider range of cupboards of different heights, shelves, magazine racks and basket combinations than ever before to choose from, to create a
unique space that has the right storage options for the owner.
Internal storage solutions have become smarter and improvements in hinge and runner technology has led to the development of intelligent pull down systems that makes access to high level cupboards much easier.
The latest trend is for folding and sliding door systems to hide and conceal storage of appliances or defined areas. These are popular in situations where space is very limited or a very minimalist option is desired.
