WASTE DISPOSAL
InSinkErator® – A practical and convenient solution to food waste
A
report from Houzz1 states more than a third of homeowners reported that following a kitchen renovation they are preparing more meals at home and eating more fruit and vegetables. Despite our best efforts, however, a small proportion of food waste is inevitable in the kitchen and many consumers are faced with the difficulty of sustainably disposing of items such as vegetable peelings and banana skins.

Being one of the most sociable areas of the home, the kitchen is increasingly incorporated into the design of a property’s living area, and regardless of the kitchen style or design, hidden appliances, such as a food waste disposer, have convenient benefits and can rid the home of bins
filled with unhygienic food waste and unpleasant odours.
According to WRAP2, seven million tonnes of food and drink are wasted every year in the UK. This subsequently amounts to approximately 20 per cent of all household waste and resulting in a huge strain on landfill sites. Where the option of composting food waste is not possible, however, a food waste disposer is the ideal alternative for diverting food waste from ending up in landfill. The trend for open plan living incorporates the kitchen into the living area and a food waste disposer is perfect as it eliminates any food odours from the bins, without compromising on the finished appearance of the kitchen.

InSinkErator® food waste disposers O
ne of the many challenges InSinkErator® has faced in the UK market are the misunderstandings that surround food waste disposers. These include the safety and noise levels of the appliances and what happens to the food waste particles once dispensed down the drain.
InSinkErator® food waste disposers are inherently safe as they reduce food waste to minute particle size using an internal system of stainless steel grinding rings. In addition, the set of rubber guards protect the user when inserting the
food waste into the disposer. With an InSinkErator® food waste disposer there is not a blade or knife in sight.
Another common myth associated with food waste disposers is that they are a loud and noisy kitchen appliance. The InSinkErator® Evolution 200 food waste disposer has been tested by a European independent association and achieved the lowest noise level across all food waste disposers and operates at only 25dB(A)1, which is around a similar level of rustling leaves and quieter than a bowl of crackling Rice Krispies in milk2.
InSinkErator® is committed to providing lifestyle enhancing solutions, which are safe and quiet while reducing the impact of food waste on landfill sites. As the global leader and inventor of food waste disposers, InSinkErator® has a range of models to suit every household and lifestyle.
