HOBS & HOODS
Comment by Ann Onions Sales & Marketing Manager, Westin
he major kitchen trend continues to be minimalist and discreet and this is reflected in the strong sales of built-in hoods, both into furniture and into ceilings. There is still however from those who are serious about their cooking a demand for large bespoke cooker hoods to cope with the high performance requirements needed for large range cookers often with griddles, teppanyakis and now even indoor barbeques. Consumers and Designers are becoming more aware that the design of the hood can assist with its performance and that it is not just about using a more powerful motor. They are now considering the impact that ducting and installation have on the performance of a hood. 2017 was a challenging year for the kitchen industry with the loss of Alno and the impact of Brexit on pricing. As the only British manufacturer

of cooker hoods, Westin had no price increases for the whole year and made customers aware of that very early so that they could confidently quote for projects months ahead. This has been reflected in strong sales of Westin off the shelf cooker hoods and the Bespoke hoods. 2018 shows no sign of any change in kitchen design trends so the demand for built-in hoods will continue and the increased passion for cooking means Range Cooker sales will still be strong along with high performing bespoke hoods. The trend with these will be for a variety of finishes
The major change in the cooker hood market for 2018 will be in the non-serious cooking kitchen. The demand for induction hobs is strong and for an island solution with minimal disruption both designers and consumers are now opting for an extraction solution integrated with the hob which negates the need for a conventional cooker hood above and the additional costs involved.

As well as unveiling the stunning and stylish new finishes and textures, Westin will be showing examples of its standard and bespoke extraction solutions on the stand.
“The new finishes and textures to be revealed at kbb will enhance the design implications for extraction, and as the only British manufacturer of cooker hoods, we are very proud to be innovators.” comments Sales and Marketing Manager Ann Onions.
Westin’s Huddersfield investment completes next phase
The next phase of expansion to Westin’s Huddersfield head office site is complete. Westin has been manufacturing at Phoenix Mills in Huddersfield since 1921. The 2014 purchase of adjoining property, Grove Works increased Westin’s site to 76,000 square feet.
To date, Westin’s service area, parking and delivery areas, warehousing, packing and test facilities, as well as offices and production for other companies in the Westin group have been finished and are in place.
Renovation work to the first two floors of the former Grove Works within the investment site is complete, with work to the top floor still underway. This final phase, due for completion in 2019, will include greater office space for the expanding Westin team, meeting rooms and a large product showroom.
