Ease of installation continues to attract professionals to Schluter®-Systems’ DITRA-HEAT

product innovation and the development of strong technical benefits have helped define the Schlüter®-Systems brand, with practicality for the installer being as important as aesthetic appeal and functionality for the end user. Introducing easily installed and highly reliable underfloor heating to the range in 2013 was, therefore, very much a logical progression. The very versatile and convenient DITRA-HEAT was an immediate hit with bathroom and wetroom specialists, as well as smaller building contractors and even heating engineers looking to offer their clients a straightforward means of providing the indulgence of warmth underfoot, independent of themain central heating system. It also offers the further benefits of helping tiled surfaces dry out more quickly after showering improving safety and discouraging mould growth. Importantly, DITRA-HEAT was an addition to

R

themanufacturer’s Schlüter®-DITRA family of products which, since 1987, have offered a firm foundation formany millions of square metres of tiles and natural stone flooring installations across the world. The membrane features a grid of rectilinear dovetail shaped cavities which key in thin bed mortar, it decouples the tile installation from the substrate, helping to minimise stress-related cracking and ensuring a durable, long-lasting finish. DITRA is also waterproof and dissipates water vapour pressure. Available in lengths from 4.0 up to 244m, for

flooring applications the DITRA-HEAT cables are laid into every third row of studs across the carrier

membrane, covering areas from 0.4m2 to 22.7 m2 and delivering an output of 136 W/ m2; with no more than two heating cables (total output not exceeding 3600 Watts) connected to one thermostat. When installed behind walls, the cables are located in every second row, increasing output accordingly. As a recent addition to the range,

Schluter®-DITRA-HEAT-PS combines the proven reliability and performance of the original modular electrical underfloor heating system with the simplicity and speed of themanufacturer’s innovative Peel & Stick technology. While the usual installation requirements - such

as a clean, dust-free, rigid, and load-bearing substrate - still apply, Peel & Stick provides the perfect solution for installations over the common ‘green chipboard’, which tiling adhesive simply will not adhere to. The advantages of being simpler to usemakes the product more accessible within the construction industry, with tradespeople like bathroom fitters rather than experienced flooring contractors being able to install the membrane. With no tiling adhesive required, the installation process is cleaner and less labour-intensive, saving both time andmaterial costs by eliminating the need to mix, spread, or wait for the tile adhesive to dry.

In fact, the user-friendliness of the Peel & Stick

range includes being able to reposition the membrane repeatedly, with the material only bonding to a substrate when pressure is applied. For further information, call or visit the website.
