SHOWERS, TRAYS & ENCLOSURES leuan Davies

BKU’s Matt Broughton spoke with leuan Davies, National Key Account Manager at wedi, about a year defined by innovation, evolving sector trends, and the company’s continued mission to shape the future of waterproof wet room systems.

s 2025 draws to a close, wedi reflects on a year marked by product innovation and renewed momentum within the wet room and waterproofing sector. One of the company’s most notable achievements has been the introduction of a solution the construction industry has long awaited. “This year, we introduced a brand-new concept for accessible showering. The Fundo Flex system is a freely configurable shower solution for which the construction industry has been long waiting for,” explains Ieuan Davies, National Key Account Manager at wedi. “It combines the flexibility of a linear shower drain with the reliability of interlocking; 100% waterproof Fundo sloping boards allowing the customer to cut and piece the components together however they like. Strictly speaking, the installer is now able to create a customised shower solution without having to submit drawings, sign off plans or wait several weeks for delivery.”

The launch has taken centre stage for wedi in 2025, signalling the company’s ongoing focus on practical innovation and installer-friendly design. While innovation remains crucial, wedi’s overarching mission continues to be shaped by its partnerships with industry professionals. “As an independent manufacturer within the Ardex Group, we stick to our roots and continue to focus on collaborating with installers and architects in order to support professionals with intelligent solutions that make bathroom and wet room construction easier, safer, and more sustainable for generations to come,” Ieuan says. “Within the wedi Group, the mission of the UK team is to become the number one provider of waterproof wet room solutions.”

From Ieuan’s perspective, the last 12 months have brought noticeable shifts in customer expectations and design preferences. “I would say that evolving lifestyle preferences for minimalist and accessible design, and for high-quality future-proof solutions are in high demand right now,” he notes. “There is also a much greater consumer interest in wellness and creating spa-like experiences at home.” Looking ahead, he anticipates that the industry will continue leaning towards softer, more organic forms.

“The new emerging trend is organic design; clean modern vibes, soft curves, flowing lines and natural textures,” Ieuan explains. “People want to bring more relaxation into their everyday lives; they want a bathroom that feels less like the loo and more like a private spa.” Fortunately, wedi is already equipped to support this direction.

“Only the right materials can turn a creative vision into a stunning, functional design and I’m happy to say that we are prepared - cut, shape, bend: flexible and easy to work with, our building systems give full freedom to explore bold, creative ideas.”

At present, wedi’s focus is on harnessing emerging trends to guide its next generation of system solutions.

“Emerging trends like sustainable solutions, digital planning tools, and commitment to modern bathroom solutions such as flexibly adaptable bathroom furniture and wet room systems influence our next innovations,” Ieuan says. “Our system solutions are the result of careful thought, mindful design, and a passion for perfection. As in the past, we wish to follow the same path in the future - ahead, better and smarter.” Future-proofing remains central to wedi’s product development approach: “Since 1983, as a responsible manufacturer, we have been constantly improving our products and system solutions in close collaboration with industry

professionals,” Ieuan explains. “All our products are built on knowledge and trust, giving customers freedom to create and confidence to build.” The Ardex Group Warranty plays a crucial role in this long-term reliability, as Ieuan explains: “As a cornerstone to our foundations the Ardex Group Warranty now offers our customers unparalleled peace of mind. Installers can get everything they need between the substrate and tiles, including adhesives and grouts… everything from a single source and with a 10-year comprehensive product warranty.”

wedi’s sustainability efforts emphasise measurable outcomes over marketing claims. “Green claims are easy, but measurable results? That’s what matters,” Ieuan says. “Our products are manufactured with 100% green energy… waste materials from manufacturing are recycled in our factory and fed straight back to production. The list is long.”

He points to transparency, awards, and robust certification as proof of genuine impact: “Blue is the new green. Transparent information. EPD certificates. What matters is that we are doing all we can to ensure that our environmental impact is kept to the very minimum.”

The coming year will see another significant step forward for wedi - one that promises to surprise the market.

“This time, we are innovating beyond tiles… and beyond expectations,” Ieuan teases. “Our next hot topic will bring sustainable measures to everyday showering. The UK bathroom sector must brace itself for the next steps in bathroom innovation.”
